It similarly connects the stanzas to necessitateher. The whole poem is a metaphor. The mushrooms represent the women in the 50s and 60s before their rights were established. Mushrooms appear overnight, growing and expanding qui ckly. Women did not appear all of a sudden overnight but they had been ignored for so long that when they began to entreat for their rights there all of a sudden appeared to be numerous of them. Mushrooms are also seemingly harmless, retributive bid women were thought to be, but many of them can be poisonous, sometimes even deadly and are underestimated the same way women were before.
Sylvia Plath also explores the thought that women were treated like furniture. This idea is repeated on several occasion throughout the poem. The first character of this idea is the line Earless and eyeless. They are senseless, a piec e of furniture. The line which follows also ! reflects this idea of them being furniture. Women were evaluate to be Perfectly vowel systemless . They had to be the perfect housewife, smelling after their children and husbands, cook delicious meals, bully the house and hitherto they were expected to have no opinions whatsoever, lots less voice them and express them.
